Scott Morrison was sworn in as Prime Minister of Australia on August 24, 2018 after being elected leader of the Liberal Party. He was first elected as the Federal Member for Cook in 2007.
Having spent more than a decade in the Australian Parliament, and during his time as Prime Minister, Scott Morrison established his reputation as a passionate advocate for his local community as well as a vocal legislator for difficult social, political and economic policies, spanning three separate Cabinet portfolios prior to being elected to the role of Prime Minister.
As Prime Minister, Morrison was instrumental in guiding Australia through the COVID-19 pandemic. Through such a uncertain time, the Morrison government initiated JobKeeper – one of the most successful economic support programs in Australia’s history. It was more than just a wage subsidy, it was a program that saved more than 700,000 jobs while largely supporting small businesses (equating to 97% of the recipients).
