Planting Trees for the Queen’s Jubilee

For 70 years, Her Majesty The Queen has faithfully served as our Sovereign.

To honour her lifetime of service, the Australian Government has launched the first of its official tributes for Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee with a nation-wide Planting Trees for The Queen’s Jubilee.

Eligible groups and organisations are invited to hold commemorative events and tree planting activities to mark this significant milestone. The program will form part of an enduring legacy in Her Majesty’s honour that Australians can cherish for decades to come.

The Australian Government is providing up to $15.1 million in funding over three years to eligible groups and organisations for community-based tree planting events. As part of this funding, our community will be eligible for up to 10 projects ranging from $2,500 to $20,000.

To ensure that the best projects are chosen for our area, I have brought together an independent panel of community leaders to consider expressions of interest submitted by local organisations, schools, and councils.

I invite eligible applicants to submit an expression of interest to my office by 18 March 2022 for review by the Cook Jubilee Program Consultation Committee.

Information on eligible activities and entities is available in the grant guidelines at https://business.gov.au/grants-and-programs/planting-trees-for-the-queens-jubilee

PLEASE NOTE: the dates on the business.gov.au website link is for step 2 in the application process. Please refer to the instructions and relevant dates detailed below.

HOW TO APPLY FOR A PLANTING TREES FOR THE QUEEN’S JUBILEE

Applying for Planting Trees for the Queen’s Jubilee is a two-step process.

  • Submission of “Expression of Interest” (EOI)
  • If your EOI is approved you will be invited to complete a detailed formal grant application through an online portal which will then be assessed by the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications (the Department).

WHAT IS THE PROCESS?

STEP 1

i) Complete an Expression of Interest by Monday, 18 March 2022 at 5:00pm – online or paper form

ii) Expressions of Interest will be assessed by the Cook Jubilee Consultation Committee (the Committee) between 21 and 25 March 2022. The Committee is made up of a broad range of community members who assess EOI applications impartially.

iii) The week commencing 28 March 2022 all EOI applicants will be notified by email of the Committee’s decision on successful and unsuccessful Expressions of Interest.

Please note approval of your Expression of Interest by the Committee does not guarantee approval of your formal grant application.  Your formal grant application via the online portal will be assessed by the Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources.

STEP 2

i) Organisations with a successful EOI will receive a link to the Department’s online portal to complete a formal grant application. The online portal will seek more detailed information from your organisation regarding your application such as budgets, council approval (if relevant), plans etc.

Formal Grant Applications can only be made via the online portal, after receipt of the email invitation link.  The portal closes on 2 May 2022 at 5:00pm.  Applications will not be considered after this date.

ii) Upon completion of your online formal grant application, the Department will assess your application. You may be contacted by the Department directly if they require further information from you.
