I am pleased to advise that Volunteer Grants 2016 is now open for applications.
The Australian Government is investing $10 million in Volunteer Grants 2016 to support, encourage and increase participation in volunteering in local communities.
These grants help community organisations support their volunteers by making their volunteering work easier, safer and more enjoyable.
Volunteering is an important part of the fabric of our society, helping to strengthen and enrich our communities. More than six million Australians volunteer each year freely giving their time and skills to help others. They are the parents that help out with the local football and netball teams, the landcare groups looking after our environment and the guides in our museums and galleries.
Volunteers also provide a critical service in helping those most in need, whether it be through their local charity, rural fire brigade or state emergency service.
Grants between $1,000 and $5,000 are available for not-for-profit community organisations to support their volunteers through practical measures such as the purchase of small equipment items or reimbursement for the cost of fuel, training and background checks. Recipients who received funding in the 2015 round included Sylvania Heightys Community and Youth Club for First Aid Safety equipment, Menai Hawkes Netball Club (Miranda) for computer equipment and Cronulla RSL Youth Soccer Club for storage facilities.
