Community Grants Boost Shire Veteran Health And Wellbeing Projects

Veterans and their families in the Sutherland Shire will benefit from Government funding helping Miranda RSL Sub Branch to purchase a replacement bus for transporting veterans to commemorative and social functions.

The Local Federal Member for Cook, the Hon. Scott Morrison MP, said funding under the Veteran and Community Grants programme of $97,558 is helping to enrich the lives of local veterans and their families by supporting important services with the purchase of a new bus for the Miranda RSL Sub Branch.

“I congratulate Miranda RSL Sub Branch on its commitment to improving the lives of our national treasures – the local veteran community – in practical and tangible ways. The Miranda RSL Sub Branch’s bus is in constant use and has strong demand to facilitate getting veterans out and about,” Mr Morrison said.

“This Veteran and Community Grants funding will have knock-on effects for the local community, which has contributed to making this invaluable project a reality.”

Ex-service and community organisations, veteran groups and private organisations that contribute to the health and welfare of the veteran community are all eligible to apply for funding through the Department of Veterans’ Affairs’ Veteran and Community Grants programme.

“The dedication and hard work of organisations such as Miranda RSL Sub Branch ensure veterans and their families receive services, support and opportunities that allow them to continue active roles in their local communities,” Mr Morrison said.

In this round, Veteran and Community Grants worth over $822,000 have been awarded to 45 projects across the country.
