The Meeting of Two Cultures – 29 April 2023

I attended the meeting of two cultures ceremony at Kamay Botany Bay National Park, which is held each year on the anniversary of Cook’s landing in 1770.

The ceremony brings together important themes of respect, reconciliation and understanding on this important day in Australia’s modern history.

There is more working being done at the site, including a new visitor and education centre, that I was pleased we were able to fund in Government.

I am especially thankful to Noeleen Timbery, Chair of the La Perouse Aboriginal Land Council, who has been such a terrific partner in making these projects a reality, and the chair of the project committee, my predecessor in Cook, Bruce Baird.
